Since it premiered in October 2017, Mindhunter has been one of the most talked-about shows on television. The crime drama, which is set in the late 1970s and early 1980s, follows FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) as they interview imprisoned serial killers in an attempt to understand how they think, in the hope of using that knowledge to solve ongoing cases. The show created by Joe Penhall, and based on the true story of the FBI’s early days of criminal profiling. The show’s first season was a critical and commercial success, and fans were anticipating the second season, which released in August 2019.
1. David Fincher opens up about why Mindhunter season 3 isn’t in the works
It’s been almost two years since we last heard anything about Mindhunter, the critically-acclaimed crime drama from David Fincher.
The show’s second season premiered way back in August 2019, and fans have been awaiting any news about a potential third season ever since.
Unfortunately, it looks like be waiting a while longer, as Fincher has revealed that a third season of Mindhunter is not currently in the works.
In an interview with Vulture, Fincher explained that the show’s future is currently up in the air, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing global situation.
“COVID has killed off a lot of production, , and it’s hard to be in business with Netflix when they’re being so tight-fisted about how much they’re willing to spend on things,” he said.
“So, for the moment, we’re not working on it.”
Fincher also revealed that he is currently working on a new feature film, which is currently in the early stages of development.
“I’m working on something else right now,” he said.
“I don’t know when that’s going to see the light of day, but it’s definitely not Mindhunter.”
So it looks like we’ll have to wait a little while longer for any news on Mindhunter season 3. In the meantime, we’ll have to rewatch the first two seasons and hope that a third is greenlit.
2. The Mindhunter season 3 cancellation: what David Fincher said
When it comes to Hollywood, there are always a lot of different projects in the works. Yet, sometimes a project will get put on hold or even cancelled altogether. Recently, it announced that season 3 of the hit Netflix show Mindhunter cancelled. While some fans disappointed, others understood the decision.
Now, David Fincher has opened up about why he thinks the show cancelled. In an interview with Vulture, Fincher explained that the show was always meant to be a three-season arc. He also said that the cancelation had nothing to do with the success of the show.
“It was never meant to be more than three seasons, four seasons at the most. And that, you know, once we started talking about what would a third season even be about, we realized that there’s not enough time to do the research and to do all the interviews. So we’re kind of glad it’s over now,” said Fincher.
He also explained that the cast and crew had already moved on to other projects. “Everybody’s kind of moved on, so it’s for the best,” said Fincher.
Omit, it seems like the cancelation of Mindhunter was due to the fact that the story had come to an end. While some fans may disappointed, it’s important to remember that all good things must come to an end.
3. David Fincher on Mindhunter season 3:
It’s been over two years since the second season of Mindhunter premiered on Netflix, and fans are still waiting for news on a third season. In a recent interview, series creator David Fincher opened up about why the show is still on hiatus, and it sounds like it might be a while longer before we see any new episodes.
Fincher explained that the show is “an expensive show to make” and that it’s “hard to find time to do it.” He also noted that it’s difficult to find the right story to tell in a third season, as the first two seasons have already covered a lot of ground.
“We talked about a lot of things [for season three], but we couldn’t find the right fit,” Fincher said. “have been trying a little too hard. Sometimes you have to step away for a while and let it percolate.”
So it sounds like not see Mindhunter season three for a while, if at all. But given how good the first two seasons were, it’s definitely worth waiting for.
4. Mindhunter season 3: David Fincher reveals why the show won’t return
It’s been almost two years since we last saw Holden Ford and Bill Tench on Mindhunter, and it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting any new episodes anytime soon. In a recent interview, showrunner David Fincher revealed why the show won’t be returning for a third season.
Fincher explained that the show is “an expensive show to make” and that it’s “not a very big show audience.” He added that it’s “a hard one for [Netflix] to justify,” especially given the current state of the TV landscape.
While it’s disappointing to hear that Mindhunter won’t be returning, it’s not surprising. The show was never a huge ratings hit, and it’s always been a niche show. It’s also worth noting that Fincher is currently working on a new Netflix series, Mank, which is set to premiere later this year.
So, it looks like we’ll have to content ourselves with re-watching the first two seasons of Mindhunter for now. Who knows, we’ll get lucky and Netflix will change its mind down the line. But for now, it doesn’t seem like we’ll be getting any new Mindhunter anytime soon.
